Summary: From generative artificial intelligence to virtual world construction, digital art is profoundly influencing the design of our surrounding world. This reflects a desire for escapism and a dreamlike state where things can and will be different.
So, why is this important? How should product and interior design respond? And how do we blend innovation with a cozy feeling in our homes?
This theme is at the core of our 2024 trend forecast. In the early stages, generative AI remains an innovative concept. However, we now see a growing interest in digital art and a cultural enthusiasm for the digital world, which will pave the way for its further maturation in the future. Youth culture is also a key factor, where a positive attitude towards physical space reflects a combination of rejecting the past and aspiring to create.
In the following 18 to 24 months, the influence of digital design has created new perspectives and narratives. Firstly, it offers a more immersive way to reimagine the world (or new worlds). Secondly, it provides new opportunities for self-expression by democratizing creativity through the creation of tools. The trend concept for Spring/Summer 2024, “Avatar Lounge,” explores the impact of this digital influence on physical spaces and product design.
Avatar Lounge Entering the Avatar Lounge, consumers immerse themselves in a comforting environment, guided towards an escapist digital realm that creates a sense of limitless optimism, generating a relaxed and pleasant feeling within the home. The decoration and use of colors lean towards digital aesthetics, longing for escape and possibilities, while mixing hard materials with soft ones, hinting at digital surrealism.
Soft Digitized Home Decor Futuristic yet cozy, this story offers the ultimate escape. Home designers create intriguing, surreal spaces to uplift spirits. Decor combines solid and fluid elements. Furniture and appliances take on circular, spherical, or chubby, bubble-like shapes, reflecting the long-term trend towards more rounded forms.
For home goods designers, materiality should be a focus of attention. Translucency, reflections, as well as wavy and ridged surface textures can have an immediate impact on existing products. Packaging designers can boldly explore various expressions, from digital artwork to more intense color impacts, to fun options for metal and synthetic storage solutions.
